Mastering Your Filesystem in Windows 11

File system maintenance , do we really need to do this with today's modern computer's running window's 11 ?

Answer is absolutely!

Does your computer reboot, lose power, or worse even crash?

Every time any of the above happens the file system runs the risk of corruption,  windows 11 is quite good at recovering most files but even then can sometimes be hit and miss.

My new Seagate  nvme drive arrived as a replacement for faulty one. Installed on motherboard and  downloaded window's 11 iso and created bootable USB.

FireCuda 520 Series NVME Drive

I am just doing doing basic window's 11 install and applying the updates for the meantime and activating with my Microsoft account which all went according to plan.

Then I ran a few tests to check drive was working everything seemed ok.

This new drive is so quick as soon as switched on computer 2 secs later at window's login screen.

Now to maintain the Filesystem.

Open a elevated administrator command prompt:

And enter the following

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Using DISM Command Prompt

Deployment image servicing and management DISM.exe is a command-line tool used for servicing images for deployment which can also be used with a lot of other utilities.

In this instance we are updating files in local store on your computer.

This will check your window's 11 component store and repair any errors, it also uses the same as updates from online window's store.

After completed successfully run  following command

sfc /scannow

Using DISM.exe SFC /Scannow

SFC is system file checker for Window's 11 and previous versions

I would recommend running these 2 fantastic recovery apps at least once a month ,and on a Window's 11 computer takes a few minutes

This will ensure that your component store is healthy and if a corruption does occur you are restoring a good clean file, that is up to date.
